With my final project I wanted to present the exclusive nature of a "poetry scene" to a broader audience who may not be expecting to hear poetry. The idea is not to shock the audience but rather to create a more "present" sense of the subculture that is slam poetry/spoken word without the audience specifically searching for it.
Rather than having poets stand on a street corner and deliver their poetry I decided to present the poetry in the very sense that exists within a place like Omaha, very much available yet "hidden" or exclusive. Overall, I think the performance went well, I would be interested to see how this same performance would develop in areas other than the space we worked in. The reactions that we received varied, some people simply observed, made comments of appreciation, curiosity or annoyance,or even seemed to ignore the situation altogether. The tension that was felt when I participated was high, there was an unspoken desire for the people who passed by to listen although that was not always the response that was received and I found that to be interesting.

Definition Please Word Blog.
http://www.defplease.blogspot.com
-I have a great appreciation for words and language, so I thought it would be a good idea to create a blog that caters to definining non-sense, made-up and slang words that either I use, have heard or others use. With several other sites that cater to defining words that aren't neceassarily found in the standard dictionary I wanted the focus of my blog to be a fun approach to language and word use.

This music video is made to explore everyday sound and how the things that we hear go seemingly unnoticed but when placed together and composed in a particular way the sounds we hear everyday can be rhythmic and entertaining.

PROJECT 4: COMMERCIAL

With this commercial I wanted to do a PSA on a topic that's not usually done as a PSA. I wanted to explore the program Adobe Premiere since it was new to me, and get used to some of the effects and perks of the program. I also wanted to include some stop motion and a minimal amount of text to move the video along. A PSA to write a letter, stemmed from a poem idea I had and I thought it would be a good idea to translate the main idea of my poem into a video.

PROJECT 3.5: PERFORMANCE SCORES

Given: The performace score that I wrote was focused on the ideas of showing appreciation to the people around you that mean alot to you. This idea follows along some of the same lines as gift giving. I decided to have the recipient of the score give someone they care about a compliment in pig latin, and record how the person responded and how they felt about presenting the compliment. my reason for wanting the compliment to be in pig latin was because I thought it'd would kind of lighten the mood, open up dialog and perhaps create an unknown reaction to the compliment.

MY CHOICES!

[I CHOOSE # 2]-I really enjoyed watching th film, Frida, it allowed me to complete my score as well as watch a movie I had been wanting to see for a long time.
‘Frida’ Synopsis
The life of a woman who endured so much pain yet displayed so much passion, Frida takes you on a journey into the life of Frida Kahlo. Starting at a young age, Frida proved her individuality and tendency to go against the grain to be the grit of her ambition towards life. Frida is the story of a great artist who turned tragedy into her reason to live, starting at a young age with a crippling trolly accident that goes on to impact the rest of her life and moving on into struggles with her marriage to the Mexican mural artist, Diego Rivera. Many know Frida based upon her marriage to Rivera more than as a painter in her own right, but her work was one thing that Diego often marveled over. Her ability to paint and capture emotion, pain, and struggle is quite amazing and that’s what her work is known for. This film also gives a great history timeline of not only Frida and Diego’s life but also the historical and political events taking place in the 20s and 30s, which help you understand the times in which they were living. The film all and all focuses on capturing time and is able to effectively compress the life of Frida Kahlo into 2 hours worth of content successfully. Frida’s struggle with accepting Rivera’s “sickness” of infidelity along with her own trials; loss of a child, physical pain, and ultimately Rivera’s betrayal, give you the sense of the continuous obstacles that were her life. Yet, this beautiful, heart wrenching art Kahlo produces seems to take those obstacles and place them on canvas and although they’re specific to her own situations, I think it’s safe to say they’re relatable to the human experience. Frida’s life can easily be seen as tragic but when you’re able to look closer you see that Frida was a vessel for passion that seemed to outweigh her tribulations in every way. More so than the tragedy of physical ailments and emotional exhaustion is this ability to cope and this is the message being delivered to us through the life and work of Frida Kahlo

On the learning to love you more website I decided to particpate in the "Make the saddest song ever" performance score. I thought it would be interesting to work with sound and while creating my sad song I decided to focus more on the tone and sound of saddness more so than the content of the song.

PROJECT 2: Site-Specific Installation

"the thought chair" installation project proved to be a great success. I wanted to provide a common place that people who pass by could have the opportunity to jot down whatever they'd like on a bright orange chair I positioned in a sitting area. I received several responses and they consisted of everyhing from quotes from Gandhi to secrets that no one else knows. I mainly was interested in doing this project because i wanted the viewer to be included in the art and leave apart of what they have to offer behind. I also was curious to see just what kind of messages would await me once I revisited that chair.
